This image represents our ability to come from a place of suffering into the light, much like the lotus flower, whose roots start in the muddy earth and rise up through the water to the light of the sun. This reminds us that we too can rise up from any difficult situation and reconnect to the light that surrounds us.

This painting was also recreated as a moveable mural in Asbury Park on the corner of Cookman Ave and Bond Street in May 2021. It can now be seen at 1301 Main Street in front of the VNA building.
